Advent 2020

Today is the first day of Advent which is the time of preparation for the commemoration of birth of Jesus Christ on Christmas December 25th as well as preparation for his second coming sometime in the future. Advent like Lent is a time spent with prayer, fasting and almsgiving to make room in our hearts to receive Him. The innkeeper had no room in “his inn” to receive the savior of the world. It was filled with much more than just weary travellers.

The theme for this first week is Watch. We do not know the day nor the hour that Jesus will come again. Am I ready?

Good questions to meditate on this week are: Is there room in my inn? Who or what is filling up my inn? How can I improve my relationship with the Lord during this time of preparation?

Quinceañera

Day 7

It is tradition in Mexico to host a large party on a girls 15th birthday called a quinceañera to celebrate her transistion from child to young woman. The closest thing we have in American culture is a girl’s sweet sixteen.

When I was young, my family attended a quinceañera and I was blown away by how grownup the young woman looked in her mother’s wedding dress and loved the rhinestone tiara that she wore. So beautiful! 😍

16 Personalities

Day 6

Personality tests are really big. One of the most mentioned being Myers-Briggs 16 personalities. The benefit of knowing your “exact personality” is that you can tell people that you’ve taken the test and watch videos poking fun at your personality type! XD However it can help you and others understand how you think and respond which can theoretically help them relate to you better.

For me, I think that its best to look at it as a tool, not as an unchanging fact. My personality has changed a lot since my youth and knowing my personality hasn’t actually provided additional insight or lasting relationships. Its more of a novelty, just like knowing my Hogwarts house. 😉

If you are interested in giving it a go, be prepared to answer a lot of questions! XD
