Japanese Sweets

DSC_0458-1

After hearing about my failed mochi attempt my swim instructor bought me some Japanese goodies – green tea Pocky, green tea Kit Kat, Nestle Aero – green tea flavored, another green tea crisp and strawberry daifuku which is basically mochi with something other than red bean paste inside. ^///^ The consistency of the daifuku was so much smoother than mine! I wasn’t even close. *tear* I’m going to leave mochi making to the professionals from now on.

Thanks for reading!

Japanese Snacks and a Daruma

Everyone is blogging about Japanese goodies and I don’t wanna be left out!!! >^< (See Sew Maru and IntrovertJapan’s snack posts)

This evening Maru, Nina and I paid another visit to our favorite local purveyor of Asian snacks and goods, China Capital Arts. Over the years I have tried a decent amount of Japanese/Asian snacks; some good, others not so good, and some just tolerable with an underlying “Never buying this again” gag reflex – but I generally ate them anyway. So when we purused snacks this evening I wanted to make sure to pick up something I haven’t tried before.

I had been loitering around the individually wrapped giant pocky and was fingering the different Pretz packages on the counter when the clerk came over.

“Do you like bacon?” she asked.

“Yeah…” I knew there was going to be a marketing spiel.

“Eel is like bacon of the sea.” She explained. Uh-huh… right. I looked skeptically at the Eel flavored Pretz. “Girls really like the eel.”  I didn’t budge. The clerk tried another tactic.

“You’ve had smoked salmon before?”

“Yes”

“It has the same smoky flavor.” Okay….

“If you buy all three you’ll get the sale price~” I bought all three packs.

Pocky: Melon, Pretz: Apple and Pretz: Eel. These three delightful flavors from our friends at Glico.

Surprisingly the Eel Pretz is pretty good. 🙂

Years ago I had bought a pack of wrapped Japanese candies from World Market whose label I couldn’t read. The first one was good however every successive one was worse than the last. I could only con a few siblings to try them so I suffered it and ate the rest. I haven’t tasted any Japanese food item like that since then…until today. On my way out of the shop I purchased a Red Bean Mochi icecream. T~T My poor tastebuds~!  Let me be clear on one thing: I DO NOT LIKE RED BEAN!!! :c

Oh yeah, I couldn’t pass up this awesome Hello Kitty Daruma! She’s so cute!
