It’s that time of year again! Youmacon 2015 is right around the corner and for us convention hopefuls it is preparation time to pull together the outfits that we will don for the occasion. This year I have decided to attend as the adorable spitfire Vanellope Von Schweetz from the Disney film Wreck-it Ralph.
My declaration to my con companions: I am not a seamstress, and this is not the year I become one.
Being against sewing my own outfit has posed an issue with achieving the Vanellope look. As a consumer, I am at the mercy of online merchants to have something that may resemble what I desire. Items that are in trend can be found in plenty. Specific styles of workable skirts? Not so much. Specific colors of hoodies? Keep looking pal. After hours of various keyword combinations, I finally decided on the following four items to be the base of my cosplay…
Once these items arrive, other more creative and fun details will be finalized such as hair accessories, shoes, and clothing modifications that will make the outfit so Vanellope. 😉
Reason behind my choice: Vanellope is an overcomer. She was constantly told that she was a “mistake” a “glitch” someone without a purpose or place to truly call home. Once she saw Ralph’s medal hanging from the tree branch, hope sprung anew in her chest and she believed in herself and got someone else to believe in her too – even if it was just to get the medal back.
In the grand scheme of things, learning to drive a race car took Vanellope a very short period of time but it was a pivotal moment in her development as she had to have the courage to believe, shut out the negative voices that were keeping her down, and try.
When my sisters and I went to Youmacon there was a t-shirt vendor that had some really awesome designs. Sadly none of the pix turned out that we took of the booth but one of the shirts that was most memorable featured the following image…
I knew it had to be a reference to something but what? I didn’t have to wait long for an answer. When the girls and I made our way home on the second day a certain song started playing on the radio and it clicked!
The Fox (What Does the Fox Say) by Ylvis is horrible when you are just listening to it but so much fun if you watched the video! XD Needless to say my sibs and I have been having a lot of fun listening to this.
Have a look, take a listen, hope you find it funny too. :o)
Today my brother and I went back to Youmacon for more enjoyable purposes. There were a few comic panels that I wanted to attend however we missed the first one (due to misplacing my badge) so we wandered over to the dealers room for a look see. 🙂
Little Kuriboh!!! 😀
After a little while, who did we see up close and personal? Little Kuriboh!
The poster of awesome!
My brother and I got to shake his hand, exchange a few words and got him to sign a poster!!! SQUEEE!!! XD XD XD
Soul Eater wall scroll
Afterwards we stopped at a few more booths and couldn’t resist purchasing the giant wall scroll of Death the kid! :3
By this time it was about time for the next panel and we snapped a few good cosplay shots on the way. 🙂
Stein and Miss Marie – Soul Eater
An awesome Link and Zelda cosplay!
Merida – Brave
Mario and Luigi
Dark Magician Girl – Yu-Gi-Oh!
Maka, Stein and Spirit – Soul Eater
Jack Frost – Rise of the Guardians
Webcomic Panel with Fred Gallagher – Megatokyo
The webcomic panel was laid back and quite enjoyable. Most of it was a Q & A and I found my head nodding a lot with their responses – I knew exactly what they were talking about.
Overall, my brother and I enjoyed ourselves immensely and we just might come back to Youmacon next year. 🙂
Youmacon is in full swing my friends and I am in the thick of it! My sisters helped pull my outfit together at the last minute – which is why there hasn’t been any more cosplay posts… >_>; Overall I’m satisfied with the final product and definitely makes me feel like I am fully participating!
Me at my booth at Youmacon 2013 (Table 114!)
Youmacon is so exciting! After being in the Artist Alley for eight hours my sisters and I packed up the table early to see the Little Kuriboh Panel (the guy who does Yu-Gi-Oh! The Abridged Series) and got to see a never before seen episode of Cr@psule Monsters! It was so funny!!! My absolute favorite part of the panel was when Little Kuriboh would answer questions from members of the audience in the voices of Malik, Yami and Tea. XD Yep he voices them all!
My Lovely Assistants! Kiki and Chihiro – I mean Maru and Nina :3
There are so many new things to see, many more people to meet and definitely more pictures to be taken! So if you’re in need of something to do, come on down to Youmacon at Cobo! Everything Anna will be back tomorrow!
