I’ve been using my spare moments the last few days to play around with the fantasy story I drafted as a kid and have been quite forgetful about posting on my blog. (D’oh!) That being said, I am in need of some mental R&R and will be placing my blog on hiatus until January 1st 2014.
Merry Christmas Everyone! May your holiday be filled with peace and joy.
The Fantasy Novelist’s Exam
This exam is helpful yet extremely harsh towards those who want to write a fantasy novel. I was able to squeezle my way through the exam with only two yeses which I disagree that it makes it an automatic failure and therefore a throw-away story.
- Dwarves and elves have existed in stories far longer than LoTR and Narnia have been around.
- “Portal stories” exist in many genres not just fantasy.
If you want to limit your reading to only two writers then be my guest but I am interested in seeing what I can come up with.
It’s getting close to the end of December and my workload has just been doubled. There is so much to do and so little time to do it in – how can I enjoy the holidays???
While trying to de-stress and catch up on my internet-ing I came across this simple banner on Etsy…
It’s OK Banner by SecretHolidayCo
I immediately let out a breath that I didn’t know I was holding. It’s OK. Everything will work out, you’ll see.
Our copy of Despicable Me 2 finally came in the mail! The extras are flippin’ awesome!!!! >u<
I’ve been fascinated by these nifty die for months now and finally found a reason to buy them! So you get nine die with a different image on each side (54 images) you roll all the dice start your story with “Once upon a time…” and choose the one image to start off the story and then incorporate all the images into your unusual tale.
How I’m using them… I am using it to kick start my creative juices for reworking an old fantasy story of mine. Based on the die rolled, I choose a scene to elaborate on, then write it out. So far it’s been kind of fun. 🙂
My siblings will be introduced to the Story Cubes pretty soon… they’re too much fun to not share!
Practice Crane #2
It is not beautiful. My folds are extremely uneven and I tore the crane in two places that aren’t visible from the top. Despite these criticisms, the next crane I fold will be using precut origami paper.
Decided it was time for a follow up to these posts…
