Story Writing

Last month I finally picked up the fantasy story that I had started writing as a tween. I have gotten to the point where I’m so into “whats gonna happen next” that I want to pick up a volume and read it! …the problem is that the story is not in a tangible form. It mostly lies in my brain and in various notebooks, post-its, and word files.

Yeah.

Reading story tonight = No.

Bummer.

The parts that I can read (easily) are from a million years ago and still make me cover my head in shame. I could delete them but I am rather attached to their awkward and embarrassing transitions. It’s a piece of my youth. ovo

If I ever finish my story I am going to print one copy on Lula and read it ten times and then loan it to all my siblings to read and make fun of me for my strange imagination. Yep. It’s the perfect plan.

Have you ever tried writing a book? What were some of your setbacks?

Thanks for reading!

The Fantasy Novelist’s Exam

The Fantasy Novelist’s Exam

This exam is helpful yet extremely harsh towards those who want to write a fantasy novel. I was able to squeezle my way through the exam with only two yeses which I disagree that it makes it an automatic failure and therefore a throw-away story.

  • Dwarves and elves have existed in stories far longer than LoTR and Narnia have been around.
  • “Portal stories” exist in many genres not just fantasy.

If you want to limit your reading to only two writers then be my guest but I am interested in seeing what I can come up with.

Rory’s Story Cubes

I’ve been fascinated by these nifty die for months now and finally found a reason to buy them!   So you get nine die with a different image on each side (54 images) you roll all the dice start your story with “Once upon a time…” and choose the one image to start off the story and then incorporate all the images into your unusual tale.

How I’m using them… I am using it to kick start my creative juices for reworking an old fantasy story of mine. Based on the die rolled, I choose a scene to elaborate on, then write it out. So far it’s been kind of fun. 🙂

My siblings will be introduced to the Story Cubes pretty soon… they’re too much fun to not share!

My Diary

My Diary

Just like Bum Mee (Epic Asian Drama Parody) I decided I needed a diary to “accidentally” drop at the feet of my true love. So I picked up this nifty little book on my latest visit to Joann’s. 🙂

It’s so cute! The book is a C.R. Gibson brand 5″x3″ bound journal with a turquoise cover and dark blue letters, 192 lined cream colored pages and a pink elastic band to keep the book shut when I’m not writing cryptic love messages. 😉 It’s small enough to stash into my purse for on the run message writing, yet large enough to write more than one paragraph per page and the best part? I had a 50% off coupon! 😀
